How to Repurpose One Video into 150+ Content Pieces

Share

Creating content every week feels like a full-time job (probably because it is).

Back in the early days, we used to spend hours coming up with ideas, writing, recording, editing, posting… only for that one piece of content to do a brief lap around social media and then vanish into the void.

It felt like shouting into the wind. Exhausting and unsustainable.

That’s when we realised something had to change. We stopped trying to do more and started getting more out of the content we already had.

Now, at Jammy Digital, we regularly create up to 150 pieces of content per week for our clients. And no, we’re not pulling all those new ideas out of thin air – that would be madness. We’re just getting smart about what’s already there.

We turn one video into blogs, LinkedIn posts, Reels, infographics, carousels, you name it.

If you’re a business owner, marketer, or part of a small team trying to stay visible online without burning out, then this strategy is a game-changer.

Let’s show you exactly how we do it.

Why Repurposing Your Video Content Is a No-Brainer

If you’ve got a small team or you’re doing this all yourself, you don’t have time to create fresh, original content every single day.

Content marketing is a valuable but timely investment!

Research suggests that the average blog post takes around 4 hours to write, and companies often spend over 10 hours creating long-form video content.

But, despite this, only around half of marketers spend more time promoting content than they do creating it, and this is a huge missed opportunity.

When repurposed properly, a single video can put your message in front of 10x more people, across multiple platforms, with way less effort than it takes to create brand new content.

Instead of constantly chasing new ideas, you’re making your existing ideas work harder. And you’re giving your core message more chances to reach the right people at the right time.

Our 3-Step Strategy to Repurposing Video

So, how do you do this?

We follow a simple, 3-step strategy that we’ve used time and time again, for ourselves and for our clients.

It’s what allows us to turn a single video into an entire week (or more) of high-quality, platform-ready content.

It’s not magic, but it is methodical. And when you follow this approach, it removes all the guesswork from your content marketing.

Here’s what it looks like:

Step 1: Start With Strategy…

Still repurposing as an afterthought?

That’s the quickest way to waste a good idea. Most people hit record, then try to figure out how to repurpose the video.

But that’s backwards…

Repurposing starts before the lights, camera, action – it starts in the planning stage. Whether you’re in a studio or propping your phone up on a stack of books, the most important part is the plan. Not just what you’re going to say, but how that content will be reused and repurposed across platforms.

We never wing it – not for ourselves and our clients.

That doesn’t mean we go in scripted to the teeth (we definitely don’t recommend doing this), but every single shoot that we work on has a clear repurposing plan laid out in advance.

Before recording, you need to ask yourself:

  • How can I slice this into short-form clips?
  • Could this become a carousel on LinkedIn or Instagram?
  • Would this work as a blog post?
  • Are there punchy one-liners I could use on social?

You need to remember that you’re not just filming a video, you’re building a portfolio of future content.

This helps with structure (more on that later), but it also saves hours of work and gives your team (or your future self) a roadmap to follow post-creation.
Instead of wondering “Okay… now what?”, you’ll know exactly what comes next, and you’ll become a repurposing machine.

Step 2: Structure Your Long-Form Video Like a TV Series

Yes, there is a theme here! Because yet again, our second point is actually all about planning – this time in how you structure your content.

One of the biggest mistakes we see is people filming long, meandering videos and trying to figure out how to chop them up after the fact.

Spoiler: it rarely works.

There’s no structure, no clean breaks and no clear points, which makes it difficult to know how to break it up for repurposing.

We recommend that instead of thinking about it as one ten-minute video, think about your long-form video like a Netflix series. It’s not one piece of content, but ten mini pieces of content, each section telling its own mini-story and able to stand alone.

How can you do this?

  1. Add hooks throughout: hooks aren’t just for the beginning, but for re-engaging within each section
  2. Ask repeatable questions: say things like “So, how would you turn this into a carousel?” These make perfect short clips as they add context to each section.
  3. Avoid internal references: Saying “As I mentioned earlier…” or referencing numbers in a list makes the clip unusable on its own. Each point should make sense alone.

When you build in clean breaks and self-contained points, it’s so much easier to repurpose, while still maintaining the context.

Step 3: Repurpose Into Platform-Perfect Content

Phew…the planning stage is finally over, and you’ve recorded a perfectly structured, 10-part series, with a repurposing plan laid out and ready to roll.

You’re sitting on a goldmine of content opportunities, and you’re finally ready to repurpose it across platforms to get as many eyes on it as possible.

But how that content looks will differ depending on the platform.

Here’s how we typically break it down at Jammy Digital, and what we recommend for our clients,

Exactly how this looks depends on where your customers are and what resonates most with them…

1. Blog Posts

Another big-hitter in the long-form content space, and one of our all-round favourites, is the humble blog post.

Because your video is structured around clear points, turning it into a blog post becomes straightforward. All it takes is expanding your insights, adding some SEO love (think keywords and subheadings), and tying it together in your voice.

In fact, this very blog you are reading is repurposed from this video, and embedded at the top of the page. This not only boosts time on page but helps your content work double-time for SEO and video views.

2. Short-Form Videos

If you’ve ever been locked in a doom-scroll, you’ll know just how addictive short-form video platforms can be. And while you might kick things off with a long-form video, you don’t have to stop there.

Turn key takeaways into snappy, bite-sized clips for Instagram Reels, TikTok, LinkedIn, and YouTube Shorts.

These are great for attention-grabbing, value-packed content that expands your reach. And if you’ve structured your video like a mini-series, you should be able to chop up independent sections into stand-alone short-form videos.

3. Carousels and static social posts…

Look for standout phrases, surprising stats, or quick-fire advice that can be turned into a graphic or carousel for social media.

These nuggets are perfect for standalone posts on LinkedIn, X (formerly Twitter), Facebook, or even email newsletters.

If your video follows a step-by-step or list format, you’ve already got a carousel on your hands. A clear title, a clean structure, and consistent formatting make it perfect for swipeable, high-engagement posts.

However, the number one tip we can give you is to create a plan that is sustainable for you.

By anchoring it around a core piece of content (ie, video), you are giving yourself a springboard off of which to amplify your key message. But create a plan that is doable for you and your team, and build from there.

How To Use Tools To Supercharge Repurposing

Let’s be real, repurposing doesn’t just happen. It takes a system. Without one, you’ll end up with a half-finished blog, a handful of unused video clips, and a content calendar that’s constantly behind.

You need a clear, repeatable workflow that lets you take one piece of content and turn it into dozens (or hundreds), week after week (want a sneak peek at ours – take a look here).

Tools don’t replace strategy, but the right ones will make your system actually run.

Here’s what we use at Jammy Digital:

  • Rev or Otter.ai: Accurate transcriptions to speed up your blog writing or captioning, these tools help turn your spoken words into text fast.
  • Descript: Trim down long-form content, add captions, and clip highlight moments in minutes. Perfect for generating high-quality Shorts, Reels, and TikToks, without needing to master pro editing software.
  • Canva: Your design sidekick. Whether you’re building swipeable LinkedIn carousels, infographics, or lead magnets, Canva makes it easy to stay on-brand and look polished without needing a designer.

And finally, ChatGPT – while we’re not fans of using it to create the content, it can help you brainstorm ideas for and formulate a plan so you know how to repurpose.

Stack your toolkit right, and suddenly repurposing feels less like a chore and more like a content production line – but in the best, most productive way.
